I mean, I love Final Fantasy VI (or III, as it was when I first played it - hooray localization issues) and Chrono Trigger both to death, so I'm fine with whichever outcome. Heck, I'll say right now that I cheat to achieve it when it's not there, typically with an RPG like this, I add stat points by buying them for some amount of money, with the amount of stat points gained per sale going up with the playthru. For example, stats cost 1000 gold per point, but after beating the game, that price stays the same, but now you can get two points for the same price. Beating it again you get three points per buy, etc.As long as you leave everything else the same, it doesn't even interfere much with the game, as you can choose not to use it if you want, it's just there as a bonus, one that always goes up, so you've always got reason to play again.
I absolutely love RPGs, but more and more I've come to the conclusion that I just don't have the TIME to replay ones that I enjoyed because it's such a tremendous slog and waste of time when often I just wanna relive the overall experience and story. Not endure the frustration or tedium or grinding and BS super bosses.Stuff like NG+ is what allowed me to replay Chrono Trigger, Front Mission 3 and so forth repeatedly without having to redo a lot of stuff again. Back in the day, the few times I tried to replay Final Fantasy VIII or Dragon Quest VII, so much of the time was spent on dealing with the (ultimately/eventually) boring gameplay and I'd either give up or resort to cheating.New Game + is such an obvious and fairly easy to integrate answer to that. In fact, I think just about any game that has enough length, progression and/or story could probably benefit from it so long as the genre is appropriate. (Obviously it'd be silly in a Point and Click or Puzzle game)EDIT: Although it's admittedly short, I did replay CSTW quite a few times in part thanks to features like that sped up the leveling. And while it's off topic, are we perhaps going to see an additional modes?
I loved Cthulhu's Angels, although I don't know how you'd do something like that for this. Well now, that's an interesting argument for it, and one I'd make all the time.
So far, the only argument I've heard against it is that it would 'throw off the game balance', which.as he said above, that's kind of the point. Better, so long as New Game is an option, you don't have to make use of it if you don't want to, farther degrading that argument into the same territory as those against romance options in some games. Don't like them, just ignore them, they're not going to change how you play, but they'll make others happy.
